Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a surgical procedure used to treat disabling symptoms of neurological disorders, including dystonia, focal epilepsy, essential tremor, and Parkinson’s disease. The publication describes the DBS system and its advantages for patients. Also discussed is NINDS-funded research on DBS, including studies to further improve the system.
